A religious symbol, the 'Swastika' is a sign of luck in Hindu culture. The word 'Swastika' is derived from the Sanskrit 'Svastika', meaning any lucky or auspicious object, and in particular a mark is made on a person or thing to denote good luck. It has arms which are bent at right angles in a clockwise direction. All four sides are the same.
By designing the coffee table in the shape of the Swastika sign, it is hoped to bring good luck to its users and its surrounding.
This design is different as not many furniture designs are based on religious symbols. Planks of wood of uneven lengths have been used to create a dramatic and artistic effect on its already unique shape. The shorter planks which are not touching the ground makes the coffee table look lighter. In the center, there are four pieces mounted together by 45 degree joints, they act as a support to withstand the center of gravity of the whole coffee table. The four planks of wood on the side which touch the ground support and disperse the weight of the glass.
The Swastika is basically a coffee table and can be used as the center of attraction in a space, either for domestic or commercial use. It is primarily made out of red oak wood lacquered in matt finish keeping its natural colour.
