FURNITURE ART AND ACCESSORIES

Synopsis

 

The course is designed to translate the theories of design into reality thought the placement of beautiful objects into perfectly planned and thought our spaces, where great designs blend with carefully selected furniture and art. There will be site visits to local specialist suppliers to research and evaluate availability of designer furnishings for use in interior design schemes, as eidenced in references, trade journals, magazines, exhibitions, and seminars.

 

A resource sketchbook will be established to record ideas, collate information, images and visual or verbal stimuli for use in current and future projects. Participants will be involved in practical assignments and case studies, where they will familiarise themselves with the terms and definitions relating to the principles and methods of selecting furniture and accessories to achieve a desired effect.

 

Theory on the principles of design styles and its effects on the human mind reinforced through research, observation, and experimentation with particular emphasis on underlying design approaches, philosophies, constraints, influences and areas of innovation.

 

Aim of the Course

 

To provide the student with the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to select objects, furniture and art to achieve the desired ambience and function for a designed interior space.

 

Learning Objectives

 

Participants who successfully complete the program will be able to:

 

  1. Identify the physical, psychological, emotional, social and cultural responses to particular styles of interior design.

  2. Use a style approach with consistency. 

  3. Use furnishing effectively in interior design schemes.

FURNITURE PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE

Synopsis
 

The course teaches furniture fundamentals, where particpants learn the design processes through which products are conceived, developed, fabricated and marketed. Participants’ designs are evaluated for style, comfort, utility and durability.

 

Aim of the Course

 

The course aims to offer intensive training in furniture product knowledge. This workshop aims to arm participants with ample knowledge on furniture contextual studies, material characteristics/ grading, production, maintenance and other factors of consideration, so as to provide appropriate sales consultation to their customers. The course also increases the employability of participants, as well as productivity within their respective companies.

  2. Understand materials, finishes and proportion.

  3. Understand different furniture construction technologies and their applications.

INTERIOR FINISHES - SURFACE BOUNDARIES OF THE SPACE

Synopsis
 

The course is designed for participants to understand how to apply the concepts of three-dimensional design to the reality of a finished space. They will learn how to use floors, walls and ceilings to create a beautiful and functional setting to support furnishing choices. 

 

They will also learn how to specify finishes that have the greatest impact for the least expenditure and how to identify finishes that suit the functional requirements of any end use. There will be research and evaluation on the use of surface treatments in interior design schemes evidenced in references, trade journals, magazines, exhibitions and seminars, with particular emphasis placed on underlying design approaches, philosophies, constraints, influences and areas of innovation.

The course provides the basic knowledge, skills and understanding required for a participant to select appropriate surface treatments into a self-identified residential interior design solution.

Participants who successfully complete the program will be able to:

 

  1. Use appropriate surface treatments theories to visually control and create illusions that help enhance residential interiors.

  2. Apply the properties and characteristics of materials and textures in an interior design scheme.

  3. Manage the installation of their design jobs and apply the surface treatment principles to any type of interior.

INTERIOR SCALES - SPACE PLANNING AND PROPORTION

Synopsis
 

Through the course, participants will learn to analyse needs, identify possibilities and develop plans for a renovation. They will also learn to view space as a concept and develop the possibilities of structure, space, and new uses for a residential plan.

 

The course will include the design processes used in analysing the user needs for creating responsive and functional interior design solutions in residential settings. The course will, too, cover the criteria for appropriate critical evaluation of a designed interior, including responses to user needs and functionality.

Aim of the Course

 

Develop the skills in analysing user requirements and developing a design brief for a self-identified space. Participants will be equipped with knowledge, skills and attitude required to increase the range and variety of creative options in the process of conceptualising, developing and justifying creative concepts for said space.

  1. Produce a practical and responsive interior design solution for a self-identified interior design project.

  2. Explore interest and potential for future study in interior design.

PERSPECTIVE DRAWING

Synopsis

 

The course will teach participants the technique to represent three-dimensional images on a two-dimensional picture plane. Perspective drawing is essential in creating accurate and visually appealing designs, where participants use their perspectives to add depth and greater realism to their designs.

 

Aim of the Course

 

To help participants understand, visualise and manipulate space, distance and volume.

Participants who successfully complete the program will be able to:

 

  1. Translate their ideas into strong visual designs.

  2. Sell their ideas and concepts.
