DEVELOPING BRIEF, PROPOSAL & QUOTATION (BPQ) FOR DESIGN SERVICES

Synopsis

 

This course is designed to assist managers/executives/designers in the creative industry to understand the fundamental principles of developing design brief, design proposal and quotation for design services.

The BPQ program focuses on the study and application of formulating and developing a brief to initiate the design process. The skills include identification, investigation, rationalization and evaluation of pertinent information of the design project.

 

This program also covers the development of a proposal and quotation for design and design services. The skills include preparing, presenting and negotiating the fee proposal and proposal terms to effect service appointment.

It aims to enhance the economic value of the creative industry, making it current, relevant and competitive thus offering market value which will eventually benefit and encourage creative industry players to cover more grounds in the creative global arena.

 

It will also enhance participant’s skill and knowledge generating employability for the participants and thereby improving productivity in the creative industry.

 

Aim of the Course       

 

To equip participant with the skills to develop a brief, proposal and quotation (BPQ) for a design project in the creative industry.

 

Learning Objectives

 

Participants having successfully completed in this program will be able to:

  1. Identify and evaluate information required for the formulation of a brief, proposal and quotation for design and design services.

  2. Investigate and rationalise design problems and issues for development of a brief, proposal and quotation.

  3. Develop the structure and content for documentation of design project information in a brief, proposal and quotation.

  4. Negotiate fee proposal, proposal terms and obtaining client’s approval of proposal, quotation and effect service appointment.

COLOUR - LEARN HOW TO USE COLOUR FEARLESSLY

Synopsis

 

Colour is the most potent and flexible element of interior design, and the course is designed to enable participants to discover its properties, along with investigating its history and psychology of its use. Participants will learn how to introduce colour into an interior in a way that allows for experimentation and play.

 

Useful guidelines will be incorporated to build participants’ confidence in using colour and to foster their inspiration in creating new spectrums and applications.

 

Particular emphasis will be placed on underlying design approaches, terms and definitions relating to colour, principles and methods of selecting and using colour to achieve the desired effect, philosophies, constraints, influences and areas of innovation.

 

Aim of the Course       

 

The course provides the basic knowledge, skills and understanding required for a student to apply the basic knowledge of colour into a self-identified residential interior design solution.

 

Learning Objectives

 

Participants who successfully complete the program will be able to:

 

  1. Identify the physical, psychological, emotional, social and cultural responses to colour appropriate to interior design.

  2. Use appropriate colour theories to visually control and create illusions that help enhance or subdue residential interiors.

  3. Apply the properties and characteristics of colours while taking into consideration the effects of natural and artificial lighting in a self-identified residential interior design scheme.

LIGHT AND LIGHTING INTERIORS

Synopsis

 

The course is designed for participants to learn how to use the properties of light and the orientation of a space to renovate a residential project. Participants are also trained on the properties of various forms of artificial light, and the technical and aesthetic possibilities of ambient, decorative and task lighting.

 

They will also understand how light affects colours, fabrics, surfaces and many of the design decisions one needs to make in order to achieve a successful interior. In addition, participants will learn how to prepare their ideas and communicate effectively with suppliers, builders and electricians.

 

Aim of the Course

 

To provide the basic knowledge, skills and understanding required for a participant to apply the basic knowledge of lighting design into an interior design solution.

 

Learning Objectives

 

Participants who successfully complete the program will be able to:

 

  1. Understand the different types of lighting, their directional purposes and effect to the ambience of an interior space.

  2. Select electrical fittings suited to the design requirements of a self-identified residential interior.

  3. Generate reflected ceiling and effectively select suppliers.

STYLES OF INTERIOR

Synopsis

 

Through the course, participants will learn how to make strategic and conceptual style decisions, and go beyond decoration to create a sense of ambience. They will also establish a method for evaluating the elements of a room and the best suited arrangements of furniture shapes and styles to develop creative and emotional possibilities.

 

The course will cover the investigation of styles used in creating cohesive, creative and distinctive interior design solutions in residential settings, along with the criteria for appropriate critical evaluation of a designed interior. This will include aesthetic considerations, functional aspects and the style narrative of the design solution.

With that, participants will understand how to plan methodically in order to begin making creative choices without confusion and indecision, and build their confidence by employing a framework for a project in a cohesive and professional manner that will ensure a consistent result.

To explore applied design principles in a study of styles and their application to Interiors, and to provide participants with knowledge, skills and the attitude required to increase the range and variety of creative options in the process of conceptualising, developing and justifying creative concepts for interior design projects.

  2. Develop design investigation and research skills, including observation and recording skills to source information     that will form design style concept development and justification.

THE VISUAL LANGUAGE OF INTERIOR DESIGN

 

Synopsis

 

Participants will enter the world of visual images, where they begin to see the meanings and messages behind the styles and decorative images one encounters. They will discover interior design and understand the essential elements of design that enables one to identify what to look for when observing design in the world around us. They will also gain the insight needed to be a first rate interior designer, and use said knowledge to begin creating their own designs with flair and creativity.

 

The course will include the definition, interpretation of elements, application and evaluation of elements of design, such as scale, texture, tone, harmony, rhythm and connotations of space, to enhance visual literacy. This is along with the participants’ awareness of design elements broadening by identifying their application in the everyday world.

 

The course will also cover the essential underpinning knowledge, skills and attitudes required to establish criteria for appropriate critical evaluation of designs including aesthetic considerations, its social and cultural context, and exploration of the narrative of design through critical evaluation of existing ones.

To develop observation, interpretation and analytical skills to explore design principles in a theoretical and applied approach. It also aims to provide partcipants with knowledge, skills and attitude required to increase the range and variety of creative options in the process of conceptualising, developing and justifying creative concepts for interior design projects.

  2. Synthesise and apply strategies for developing and exploring creative design options.

FABRICS, WINDOW TREATMENT AND TEXTILES

 

Synopsis

 

The course is designed to enable participants to explore and discover the endless possibilities of decorative fabrics used for window treatments and soft furnishing. They will learn where to find stunningly beautiful fabrics and how to use them with much style and flair. Participants will be given criteria and technical information to help them choose the correct types of fabrics and home textiles for the required end use.

 

Along with theory on the principles of coordinating materials and texture within an interior design to create a cohesive design solution, particular emphasis will also be placed on underlying design approaches, philosophies, constraints, influences and areas of innovation. Research and evaluation of the use of textiles and soft furnishing treatments in interior design schemes will be evidenced in references, trade journals, magazines, exhibitions and seminars.

 

Aim of the Course

 

This course provides the basic knowledge, skills and understanding required for a participant to select appropriate soft furnishing treatments into a self identified interior design solution.

 

Learning Objectives

 

Participants who successfully complete the program will be able to:

 

  1. Use appropriate surface treatments theories to visually control and create illusions that help enhance or subdue residential interiors.

  2. Apply the properties and characteristics of materials and textures in a self-identified residential interior design scheme.

  3. Be confident in transforming space, proportion, scale texture and mood with the right fabrics.
